Strategy: A visual blueprint
Our process uses the metaphors blueprint and playbook.
Our strategic planning process (Visioneering) is a very practical, focused, actionable and dynamic process that creates “lines of sight,” connecting each person to the vision of the organization.
The Visioneering graphic illustrates the essential components of the planning, deployment and ongoing ‘care and feeding of the plan”.
- The BLUEPRINT defines the Vision, Purpose, Values, and longer term Organizational Focus.
- The PLAYBOOK then articulates specific goals and actions required to execute the Blueprint and can be adjusted as situations warrant.
Your Blueprint/Playbook are, by definition, dynamic and easy to use—no multi-page binder. Rather, a crisp, clear electronic-based document that can be adjusted to reflect the reality of a constantly changing environment and priorities.
To illustrate the linkage of Blueprint and Playbook, let’s use a sports analogy:
First, teams decide what they will focus on to be successful (run game, defense, speed, etc.), then create a Blueprint for success to accomplish their Vision.
Then, within the overall design Blueprint, leaders create a Playbook that specifies play options to achieve the Vision. The details of the Playbook can be adjusted to fit changing needs.
